DBE donates 5 million Birr to Macedonia, Home for the Elderly and Mentally Disabled
As Part of its Corporate Social Responsibility, Development Bank of Ethiopia donated 5 Million Birr to Mekedonia Home for the Elderly and Mentally Disabled. Management Members and Staff of DBE visited the Center on December 9, 2018 located around Ayat Condominium site, in Addis Ababa and had a lunch with around 2000 beneficiaries of the center.
During the visit president of the Bank, Ato Haileyesus Bekele made a remark denoting that the Bank involves in social responsibility to support the disadvantaged section of the society in general and Macedonia rehabilitation center in particular. DBE responds promptly to the Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed’s call up on all Ethiopians to extend supporting hands to the needy after visiting the center last Month he added. On handing over ceremony of the donation, the President acknowledges the effort and commitment of the founder and staff of the Home as well.
The president, in his remark reaffirmed that the Bank will continue its support to the center by coordinating its employees and customers.
DBE Management Meets Ugandan Delegate
Development Bank of Ethiopia’s (DBE) management members met with Ugandan delegates on November 09, 2018 here at the Head Office, who came to benchmark the Bank’s overall development activities being carried out in the Country.
Following the welcoming speech delivered by President of the Bank, Ato Haileyesus Bekele, brief presentation about the Bank was made for the delegates who are Chairperson and Strategy Director of Ugandan Development Bank, Mr. Felix Arthur and Mr. Allan Joshua, respectively.
The presentation was made by the Strategy, Change and Communication Directorate and External Fund and Credit Management Directorate regarding mandates, mission, values, strategic issues, structure, credit operation, area of lending and financial cooperation with international financers, among others.
To have a broader know-how of the Bank, the delegates have raised questions and suggestions with regard to the overall activities, after the presentation have got over.
Finally, the delegate expressed their gratitude for the significant information gained, and adding, the Bank is very big in role and doing utmost efforts to contribute share for the Country’s development.
DBE Holds 1st Quarter Meeting
Development Bank of Ethiopia held its First Quarter Management Members Meeting here in Addis Ababa from 27-28, 2018.
During the first day, the Bank’s 2018/19 First Quarter Performance Report was presented by the Strategy, Change and Communication Directorate and discussed comprehensively over by management members of the Bank. The Report revealed performance of the Bank, problems encountered during the quarter, corrective measures taken, strengthen and weaknesses observed, evaluation and monitoring processes and overall the Bank’s loans provision performances were evaluated.
According to the Report, the Bank’s this year quarter performance is better than compared to the previous year same period, in this regard, the Bank registers satisfactory level by approving birr 2.34 billion, disbursing birr 2.1 billion and collecting birr 0.97 billion, respectively, both in project and lease financing services.
The Bank also sold Grand Renaissance Bond to birr 314.53 million /126%/ during the quarter.
Branch Rationalization study was also presented for discussion and feedbacks were collected mainly from district managers of the Bank for further subsequent action.
President of the Bank, Ato Haileyesus Bekele during the meeting said that the Bank is in the process of transformation, this is therefore, it is important to actively engage in the process of change enable to sustain the Bank’s existence. Moreover, the President said it is vital to strengthen relationships between/among clients and stakeholders in the ways come up with solutions.
Finally, Ato Haileyesus urges all management members of the Bank working in different levels should work aggressively to contribute share by scaling up the country’s economy in reducing NPL ratios, creating employment opportunities, earning export proceeds and getting tax revenue for the government.
